Clavius Community Notes

2012 Fairfield University, Fairfield, Connecticut
Meeting #50: 24 June to 21 July

At the invitation of Fairfield University and its Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, the Clavius Group gathered at Fairfield University for its fiftieth session. Through the efforts of Matt Coleman (Department Chair), we were provided with offices and lecture rooms in the Bannow Science Center. We were housed in the Student Townhouse Complex. Community evening meals, daily Mass, social hours and faith discussions were held in the townhouses. This arrangement made it possible to continue our vibrant community life. The participants this summer consisted of six Jesuits, one Salvatorian sister, eight married couples, and three single lay persons. Nineteen Clavius mathematicians participated in the lectures and seminars along with several faculty members from Fairfield and other colleges and universities.

Faith Discussions 2012

July 2, Ministry to Catholics on college campuses, led by Lori Ryan Neale of Canadian Catholic Campus Ministry.
July 10, The situation of women religious vis-à-vis the Vatican, led by John Thiel, Professor of Religious Studies at Fairfield.
July 16, Experiences with Christian Life Communities, led by Paul Schweitzer, Javier Leach, and Nelson Velandia of the Clavius Group.
